Retail Unit Air Conditioning Refurbishment in London

Back in 2018, Air Options were appointed to deliver the redesign and refurbishment of an existing air conditioning system within a retail unit at the Westfield shopping centre in Shepherds Bush, London.

At point of first contact, the client explained that their retail unit was scheduled to be undergoing a refit, and as part of the fit-out process, they required us to redesign/realign their existing air conditioning system to fit both their revised store layout and their updated store aesthetic. However, owing to their unit’s location within a large shopping centre and the particulars of their lease agreement, any revisions would need to utilise the shopping centre’s existing air conditioning plant, and all modifications would need to meet the approval of their landlord.

Because of the complexities associated with the project brief, a particularly detailed evaluation and review of the client’s existing plant and services was undertaken ahead of the redesign and quotation stage. This was completed to ensure that the existing plant (a Daikin W-Series water cooled VRV system) was in a serviceable state that could support the required changes, allowing our air conditioning designers to cost-effectively design a reliable solution, that met both the client’s brief and the approval of their landlord.

At the design stage, our designers worked to create a range of detailed designs and supporting documentation, to not only ensure that our proposal met the client’s expectations but also gained the approval of the shopping centre’s management.

At the refurbishment stage, owing to the busy nature of the shopping centre, the works were carried out inside a mix of normal and out of hours working. This was done to ensure that the project came in on time, on budget, and with as little disruption as possible.

In summary, the project consisted of a detailed review and evaluation of the client’s existing services, a design which met the client’s initial brief whilst also satisfying their landlords requirements, a works schedule that fitted around the client’s day-to-day, and the commissioning of a reliable air conditioning system that was fit for purpose and aesthetically pleasing.
